Seeing Red at Night

For those of you who may not know, i'm Nigerian. I don't have a gele or a buba and thus I seek to rectify this with statement jewellery and an healthy obsession with puff-puff, chin-chin, egusi, moin-moin and akara. <---my non Naija friends do see below for a comprehensive glossary of the terms used.

This was my interpretation of African Princess- suitably watered down for the Western World. If anybody DOES feel like sending me a gele though i'll be more than happy to accept it!

I am really intrigued to see/hear about people's interpretation of cultural style African/Nigerian or otherwise. Please do comment and enlighten me!

Skirt: Thrifted - previously seen here
Scarf (strategically tied) Gifted
Tan heels - New Look
Necklace - ASOS
Bracelets - Assorted

GLOSSARY

Puff-puff : A traditional Nigerian recipe similar to a doughnut

Chin-chin: A fried snack popular in Nigeria and West Africa

Egusi - a kind of soup thickened with ground watermelon seeds, popular in West Africa

Moin-moinis a Nigerian steamed bean pudding made from a mixture of washed and peeled black-eyed beans, onions and fresh ground peppers (usually a combination of bell peppers and chilli or scotch bonnet).

Akarais a dish made from peeled black-eyed peas formed into a ball and then deep-fried

Still convinced this song is about bumble bees.

Lashings of Lovings and hopefully egusi soup!

xx
