It's like I never went away....without the 'never' part

YO HOMIES! WAAAAADUP?!

Ok, enough of that now! I am not going to make excuses for my absence, all I will say is that life is SO stressful when you're a grown up. Being in gainful employment and having to pay 'bills' and what not. I have found that it has really taken its toll on the stylish and carefree lifestyle that I once possessed.

The pictures below are the pictorial documentation of my quiet rebellion against the chains that society has thrust upon me i.e. having to dress smartly to work.

I promise I won't be gone for that long again....

Smart-cahj?

Having tentatively made deeper forays into the world of work, this is what I have come up with in answer to that ever elusive and little understood genre of clothing known as smart casual....I say me...i actually mean my mother and her eagle eye for sensible fashion....

Licence to Frill!

Oooh, I love a good frill!

I really enjoy playing with frills, specifically this top and when my mum finally gave in to my slightly unhealthy obsession with  bought me shorts it was definitely all systems go. I LOOOOVE them. I call them my super bloomers! Anybody else think bloomers is a funny word? It could mean a healthy flower-bed or it could mean something very naughty (tee-hee). Nevertheless it is one of my favourite shorts trends. It adds 'junk' to my 'trunk' like a removal van. I wore this to a lunch meeting with one of my favourite curly-haired university friends. What do you think?

Some other ways of wearing bloomers.

SWOOOOOOOOOSH!

These pics make me look so artsy and interesting - i'm off to write a screenplay or discuss the role of ancient Greek architecture in modern society.

Spirit?

Howdy doody-doos guys,

It's been a hot minute y'all but I've missed ya f'real yo! Now, you may be wondering why i'm speaking to you like Lil John or 50 cent's brother. I'll tell you why. A few of my friends have decided that I am Spirit Jones from the hit US sitcom One on One (yeah I still fancy Arnez). As a fan of the show and of Spirit herself, I immediately took this as a compliment. Who wouldn't? She was super-duper cool, had all the best jokes what I thought at the time was AMAZING hair. On closer inspection however, which mainly consisted of Google images searches I realised that maybe I didn't want to be quite so affiliated with my favourite character. Check out that print....

It's outfits like this that inspire their comments

I think they're just rude to be honest....

Skirting around the issue

Once upon a time a girl had a friend. Her friend had a skirt. Her friend never wore said skirt despite the girl's pleading. One day this girl was feeling down and so her friend gave her the skirt.

The skirt is quite a beaut! The friend is pretty cool too. #nohomo

Worn with Topshop dress, worn as vest-top, and not much else. I was in a RUSH!

A fashion moment

So about once every 18 months African clothes have what I like to call a 'fashion moment'. It's all the rage whilst everybody watches the World Cup or when a Kardashian is spotted in a moderately coloured tribal print dress. Thing is, some of us genuinely just have this stuff in our wardrobes mainly because auntie Tola/Nneka/ Eghiosa thought we should rediscover our roots and have thus commissioned a tailor to make one 'fiiiiiiiine' dress. And you know that awkward moment when said auntie finally reveals a slightly too big, slightly too long, slightly too poofy 'dress' and as you accept you begin to frantically rack your brain trying to think where you kept your needle and thread.....and make excuses to leave the room before the conversation ensues about why you don't speak igbo #awkward!

I vowed it would never happen to me again so in April I actually went with my auntie in Nigeria to get measured and put forward my ideas for a dress that I am wearing to a wedding this summer. The left over fabric was used to make a really pretty skirt!
